Upcoming Class Dates To Be Announced!
Mindfulness, the act of paying attention in the present moment without resistance or judgment, can shift the course of our lives. Instead of being pushed around by our fears and hopes, mindfulness can help us sit in the center of our lives with the confidence that we can handle whatever comes up. The most important insight that Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) offers is that mindfulness is a skill, and can be developed by anyone through effective training and practice. MBSR, a program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn thirty years ago at the UMass Medical School, is now taught in complementary medicine programs, hospitals, and universities all over the world.
With its focus on the development of non-judgmental awareness of our moment-to-moment experience, MBSR offers a powerful, integrated approach to working with our daily physical, emotional and psychological stresses and anxieties, as well as offering powerful coping tools for dealing with chronic pain and debilitating illness. For many, this program provides a solid foundation for deep emotional healing and spiritual growth.
I offer 8-Week MBSR courses several times each year. In the class you will learn practical skills and practices to cultivate and develop mindfulness in your daily life. I also offer mindfulness-based coaching and integrate mindfulness-based approaches in individual psychotherapy.
I have studied mindfulness meditation at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies, the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center, the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA, and at other internationally recognized centers since 1999,and also serve as an instructor in Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare’s “Mind the Moment” program. I continue my own mindfulness practice through 2-3 weeks of silent mindfulness meditation retreat each year, and trained as an MBSR instructor at UMASS Medical School’s Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society.
